Malmesbury

'In the whole oeuvre I also get a sense of increased interest in the Gothic. This is overt in the subject matter of the two large works on the theme of Malmesbury, the Medieval town where the artist has lived for many years, but it is also implicit everywhere. The black archaism of misericords, carved entrances to churches and other ecclesiastical details, seem to me to have a subliminal presence.'
